How To Create Text Links On Squarespace

Step-by-Step Guide: Creating Text Links on Squarespace

Squarespace is one of the fastest-growing website building platforms that allows you to create stunning websites without needing to know how to code.

One of the things you’ll need to do is learn how to create text links that direct visitors to other pages or external resources. This can be for the purpose of promoting affiliate links (if you have a blog) or internal links to direct visitors around your site.

In this article, we'll guide you through the process of creating text links on Squarespace, ensuring your website is not only visually appealing, but also highly functional.

Step 1: Log in to your Squarespace Account

The first thing you’ll need to do is log into your Squarespace account and open your website.

What to do:

  • Visit the Squarespace website and log in to your account.

  • Select the website you want to work on from the dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to the Page Editor

Now you need to choose the page you’d like to create your text link on.

What to do:

  • Click on the "Pages" tab on the left-hand side of the dashboard.

  • Choose the page where you want to create the text link, or create a new page.

Step 3: Select the Text

Next, navigate to the text you’d like to turn into a link.

What to do:

  • Locate the section or block where you want to add the text link.

  • Click into the text block to bring up the text editor.

  • Highlight the specific text you want to turn into a link by clicking and dragging your cursor over it.

Step 4: Add the Link

Now you’re going to turn the highlighted text into a clickable link.

What to do:

  • With the text selected, click on the link icon in the toolbar (look for the ‘chain link’ icon).

  • A popup window will appear, providing different options for creating the link.

    • Choose whether to link to an email, web address, file, page or phone number.

    • To link to another page on your website, type “/” (forward slash) and type the name of a page on your site.

    • You can also paste the page link from your website into this section as well.

    • To link to an external website, simply paste the link to the page you’d like to direct people to.

Step 5: Choose where the link should open

Next, determine where the link should open (in the same window, or a new tab)

What to do:

  • Choose whether the link should open in the same window or a new tab.

  • If you’re directing people to another page on your site, in the same window is a good option.

  • If you’re directing people to a different website, a new tab will keep them on your site in the original window.

Step 6: Test and Publish

Finally, you’ll want to test your link to ensure it’s working properly.

What to do:

  • Test the text link by previewing the page or using the built-in preview feature.

  • Ensure the link works correctly and directs users to the intended destination.

  • Once you're satisfied, click on the "Save" or "Publish" button to make your changes live.

Creating text links on your Squarespace website is a simple process that can significantly enhance user experience and improve website navigation.

By following the steps outlined above, you can effortlessly incorporate links that guide visitors to other pages, whether it’s another page on your website, or an external page or resource.

Pro tip: Remember to test your links before publishing to ensure a seamless browsing experience for your users. A broken link will hurt your user-experience and SEO.
